Trust the Lord to see us through

My heart goes out to the flood victims. I know how desvastating the loss of your home can be. We lost our home to a fire 20 years ago. The only way to get through it is to trust in the Lord for strength and be glad for what you have left. Try not to mourn the things that are lost. Things are just things and can be replaced. What is important are the things still with you, your friends and your family.
If any good can come from this, it is that people are glad to help in any time of crisis. The Lord put compassion in all men he created and they are not the mean-spirited, selfish people some would have us believe.
A group of volunteers, Katrina victims, came to Clarksville and other places to help. They said they were returning the favor shown to them in their hour of need by the people of this area. Two of our local people are firemen in St. Louis and they went to New Orleans to aid in search and rescue and body recovery. Groups from our small rural church, Ramsey Creek Baptist, made several trips to New Orleans to help in the rebuilding effort. Many other churches and groups from this area also went.
Remember after every storm there is always a rainbow and you are still alive and well.

Deputy supports Jimmy Shinn

I am currently a deputy with the Marion County sheriff’s office and worked the night shift since 2001. I returned to Marion County after a 20-year absence to work for Sheriff Waldschlager. I did not know that Jimmy Shinn was the chief deputy until Sheriff Waldschlager introduced me to him and I recognized him from his father, Gary Shinn, whom I worked with at the Hannibal Police Department in the 1970s.
I served with Sheriff Waldschlager and Gary Shinn at the police department and consider Gary one of the best police officers I have worked with. I knew Jimmy as a young man and have seen him grow and mature into an outstanding father, citizen, public servant and role model. Jimmy has mirrored his father’s footsteps by becoming an excellent police officer, leader and administrator.
The county now has 24-hour protection, reliable equipment to provide patrol and respond to calls for service in the county. We have been able to expand our deputies not only providing safety for the citizens but also adding assistance to the municipal agencies in the county when needed.
I would say to the citizen of Marion County, we need to continue the great strides forward the Marion County sheriff’s office has taken in the past eight years. A vote for our chief deputy as sheriff will assure that the tradition of service and protection for the citizen of Marion County will continue.

Congratulations on GM expansion

Congratulations to Darren Smith and the whole team on yet another expansion of the General Mills plant.
As a retiree of that plant, it feels great to know the future looks strong and bright for years to come.
I know these expansions don’t just happen. It takes hard work and dedication by all employees, so my hat’s off to all of you. Good leadership and a committed work-force equals constant growth every time. No double in my mind the plant’s in good hands. Keep on truckin’.

A proud retiree
