With all the negativity that people see in the news these days, it’s great to see little things like this that remind me that there are plenty of fellow Americans out there that are good people and care about their fellow man.
I am formerly a resident of Hannibal, but am now an active duty Marine. I have been in the Marine Corps for nearly ten years now. My family and I recently came back to Hannibal to visit our relatives for the holidays and enjoyed some much needed “leave” or vacation as most people call it. While on leave, I began having issues with some irritating back pain that has been giving me some aches and pains throughout the years in the Corps. It wasn’t anything serious but enough that I started looking into seeing a chiropractor.
I wanted to find a place that would allow me to go in, discuss my symptoms, have corrective procedures done, pay a fee at a reasonable price, and leave. Talking to some people I know, I was recommended to try Dr. Stephen Sankpill at Sankpill Chiropractic on Market Street in Hannibal. Everyone told me that it was a very easy process and he does a great job. I decided to give him a call. I called on a Wednesday afternoon, and was able to schedule an appointment for the next day, Thursday morning.
The following morning, I arrived for my appointment. I filled out a small amount of paperwork, spoke with Dr. Sankpill about my symptoms and then went into one of the rooms for him to have a look at me to make an assessment. He quickly looked me over and began performing superb work on correcting the back pain. The appointment was quick and easy and I felt great afterwards. The part that impressed me the most though, was what happened at the end of the appointment. As we walked back into the main lobby, I began pulling my wallet out of my pocket to pay for the work he’d done. Instead, I was met with a handshake and a sincere “Thank you for your service.” It hadn’t hit me yet and I asked him how much I owed him and he said, “Don’t worry about it. It’s on me. Thanks for what you do.” I asked if he was sure, and he affirmed that he was. As I left, I felt grateful for what he’d just done. I didn’t know how else I could pay it forward to him, so I decided the least I could do would be to write a letter to the editor and hopefully get the word out to the community about his character.
So, Dr. Sankpill, if you are reading this, I wanted to say thanks again. For everyone else reading this, I hope that small things like the good character of a business owner, can be the deciding factor in your choosing of one business over another. With all the negativity that people see in the news these days, it’s great to see little things like this that remind me that there are plenty of fellow Americans out there that are good people and care about their fellow man. Dr. Sankpill, you make me proud to stand alongside you as an American, and proud to serve this nation.
