I drive through Hannibal usually once a year when I travel to my hometown of Warrensburg, Mo., from my current home in Michigan. In June of 2016 my daughter and I decided to park downtown and explore the sights. Hannibal is a neat town and we enjoyed our time there.

When we got back in the car I discovered that the car was no longer driving 'normally'. It seemed certain that the car would be damaged if I drove it further, and I was many hours away from any familiar face. I ended up at Safety Lane and Car Care Center on Mark Twain Avenue at about 4:30 in the afternoon. They fit me into their schedule even though they clearly had plenty of work to do already. They took off tires, one of them twice, I think, and did a thorough job of inspecting and repairing my brakes. Given the late hour of the day and the fact that I was a stranger with no contacts in town, some businesses might have made me wait around town until the next day to work on the car. Another might have charged me an outrageous fee. But the fine people at Safety Lane fixed my car while I waited and charged me all of $33.69 for it.

I am grateful for that business and the kind and ethical people who work there. It is a business that you can be proud of as it represents the very best of the City of Hannibal.
