The continuing actions of the U.S. House and Senate of the federal government are an affront on the nation's social safety net. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security need to be protected from the maneuvers to dismantle the safeguards created for the most vulnerable, by those elected to serve the American public.

Although it may appear as if this legislation is at a standstill, due to the recent Fourth of July holiday, the mechanics to deconstruct long-standing institutions of the federal government continue the background.

Medicaid and Medicare are dangerously close to being gutted and Social Security has been identified as the next target. Just recently, the president recommended repealing the Affordable Care Act and replacing it at a later date. Such an appalling action would immediately leave over 32 million currently insured Americans with no health insurance at all.

The current administration and the legislative body must provide the American people with an assurance that Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are preserved at least and strengthened at best, to provide financial stability for now and for the future, and help preserve the country's social safety net.
