E. Dean Samuel, 69, of Palmyra, Mo., and formerly of Durham, Mo., passed away 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Dean was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo., to Elmer Daniel and Vina  Marie Hayes Samuel. Dean  was married to Sharon K. Meyers July 3, 1965, in Quincy, Ill. She preceded him in death Sept. 27, 2006.     
He is survived by daughters, Lisa Figueroa of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tracy (Modesto) Atilano of Pueblo, Colo.; grandchildren, Brook Atilano, Joshua (Steffani Siddons) Figueroa, Danielle (Levi) Turner, and Samantha Figueroa; great granddaughter, Zoe Ann Figueroa; mother, Vina Hayes of Hannibal; brother, Mansur Lee (Deanie) Samuel of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters, Viola Amburn of Hannibal, and Tillie (John Myers) Allen of Hannibal; and an aunt, Effie Sellars of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his father; his step-mother, Viola Hazel Samuel; and an  uncle, Marvin Sellars.
Dean was a diesel mechanic at Quincy Mack for 10 years. He also was shop foreman and service manager. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lewistown, Mo.
He was a graduate of Hannibal High School.
Dean and his wife had been foster parents to six children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, he performed maintenance and lawn care for his church, and enjoyed helping others. He was a role model for his daughters and instilled honesty, hard work, and to have faith in God. Dean’s last gift was organ donation so that others may have the gift of sight.  
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Interment will be in Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church, Lewistown, Mo.
