Dennis Ray Painter, 55, of Monroe City, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 20, 1954, in Shelby County, Mo., the son of Harold Eugene and Anna Mary Davis Painter.
Mr. Painter attended Monroe City schools and was Baptist by faith. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Painter was an avid coon hunter and black and tan coon hound breeder. Besides coon hunting, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, dancing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mother, Anna Mary Painter of Mornoe City; three sons, Jeff Painter and wife Tammy, Hunnewell, Anthony Painter and wife Amy, Hunnewell, and Lowell Painter and finance Melinda Hembry, Center;  three daughters, Michelle Kramer, Center, Christian Virden and finance Bradley Besher, Jonesburg, Mo., and Anela Painter, Hannibal; one brother, Dean Painter, Buckeye, Ariz.; five sisters, Dorothy Wisdom, Monroe City, Joyce Vaia and husband Mike, Bloomington, Ill., Betty Dweitt and husband Doyle, Fenton, Mo., Nancy Ryan and husband Terry, Hunnewell, and Janet Turnbull and husband Jeff, Columbia, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Ralph Painter.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Mo. Burial will be at the Andrew Chapel Cemetery, Marion County, Mo. The Rev. Steve Goughnour and the Rev. Robert Strong will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Ryan, Sam Painter, Jamie Karr, Charlie Davis, Tyler Virden, Nicholas Eckman, Chase Eckman and Lowell Painter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Smith, Troy Smith, Blake Painter, Austin Kramer, Tommy Wisdom and John Painter.
Memorials have been suggested to the Wyatt House, 317 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65203.
Garner Funeral Home and Chapel in Monroe City is handling the arrangements.
