Robert Harold Teel, 70, of La Prairie, Ill., passed away at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Blessing Hospital. Robert was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Hannibal, Mo., to Harold E. and Frances E. Major Teel. Robert was married to Emily Bode Nov. 21, 1964, in West Ely, Mo. She survives of the home.
Survivors include one son, Dan Teel and wife Debbie of York, Pa.; one daughter, Rebecca Daou and husband Issa of Wheaton, Ill.; one brother, John Teel and wife Donna of Hannibal; grandchildren, Adama Robert and Emily Fatim Daou of Wheaton, Ill.; one step-grandchild, Eric Hammett and Jessica of Seymour, Ind.; one great step-grandchild, Alana-Jo Hammett of Seymour, Ind.; four nephews, one niece, and great nieces and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Elizabeth Louise Teel.
Mr. Teel was a Schuyler County farmer and worked as a Rural Postal Carrier in Augusta, Huntsville And Camden, Ill. He had formerly worked as a division manager for Adams F & S.
He was a graduate of Palmyra High School, Class of 1956, and the University Of Missouri in Columbia.
Mr. Teel served with the military police in the United States Army.
Mr. Teel was president of the Schuyler County Soil and Water Conservation Board, served on the Golden Historical Society Board and the Prarie Mills Windmill Restoration Committee. Also, he was a member of the Golden Lions Club. He had formerly served on the Southeastern Unit 337 Board of Education, was past president of the Golden Good Shepherd Nursing Home Board, and served on both the Illinois State Forestry Council and the Lions Club-Golden Red Cross Committee. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden, Ill., where he served as president of the congregation.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden, Ill. The Rev. Mike Grieve will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Boots-Dickson Post 174 of the American Legion. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and/or to the Golden Good Shepherd Home and/or the Golden Historical Society.
Casket bearers will be Michael Teel, Gregg Teel, Lawrence Bode, Lyndon Bode, Brad Flesner, Richard Flesner, Roger Higgins and Steve Haschemeyer,
