W. Leo Shannon

PALMYRA -  W. Leo Shannon, 75, of Palmyra died at 9 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at his home.
Leo was born July 21, 1932, in La Grange to James S. and Katherine Bross Shannon.
Leo married Dorothy Maddox Aug. 2, 1959, in Philadelphia, Mo.
He was survived by his wife; sons, Michael (Nancy) Shannon of Palmyra and Richard Shannon of Hannibal; daughter, Diana Crane of Palmyra;  grandchildren, Sharon Shannon, Jacey Crane, Ashley Crane, James (Emily) Crane, Josh Crane, Kenneth, Cody, Marcella and Michelle Shannon; stepgrandchildren, Justin, Johnathan and Jordan Thigpen and Katherine Vice; great-grandchildren, Dilauda Shannon, Cristina Finney, Robyn Gaines and Braydon Shannon; sister, Nora (Betty) Sterling; and sisters-in-law, Wilma Shannon and Imogene (Shannon) Rose.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eddie Ray; brothers, Albert, James and Lee Shannon; and sisters, Ruth Forbis and Dorothy Filkins.    
Leo worked for the City of Palmyra, the Marion County Courthouse in Palmyra, Oxidental Chemical Co. and Hunnington Rubber Co., and he retired from Allied Maintenance at American Cyanamid.
He was a member of United Pentecostal Church in Palmyra. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953.
Leo enjoyed going to church, flea markets and auctions. He loved and enjoyed his family. He also left some very special friends, Kenny Colliver, Alan Schroder, Harold Lovelace and Robert Axton.      
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the United Pentecostal Church in Palmyra. The Rev. Robert Axton and Pastor Mike Rickman will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at the Warren Cemetery in Warren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
