John Roy (Red) Rosser Jr., 83, of Monroe City, formerly of Hannibal, died Nov. 15, 2009, at Monroe City Manor. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel Pastor Jim Allen will officiate. Burial with full military honors conducted by Emmette J. Shields Post No. 55, The American Legion will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rosser was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Hannibal to John Roy and Jessie Calvert Rosser Sr.
Survivors include one sister, Pauline Lewis, of Chillicothe; one brother, Ronald Rosser of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Linda (Roger) Majors, of Center, Teresa Tesson, of Monroe City; one son, Russell Rosser Sr., of New London; nine grandchildren, April Majors, Kari Majors, Tracy Rosser, Bradley Brown, Angela (Brown) Swearingen, Jennifer Majors, Crystal Rosser, Russell (Rusty) Rosser Jr., Jatanna Brink and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Eugenia Burrell, Helen M. Wissinger, Frances McKay and Roberta L. Rosser; three brothers, Melvin Rosser, Orville Rosser and Calvert Rosser; and an infant son.
Mr. Rosser retired after 40 years with Continental Cement in Hannibal. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Army, serving in Italy during the war. He was a graduate of Hannibal High School. He enjoyed car rides, fishing and his grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Brown, Michael Wilson, Crystal Rosser, Austin Majors and Russell Rosser Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Jennifer Majors.
