Margaret E. Rhoades, 91, of Palmyra, Mo., and formerly of Hannibal, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Margaret was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Palmyra, Mo., to Emmett and Elizabeth Kroeger Powell. She was married to Earl Rhoades June 6, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death June 3, 1967.
Survivors include two brothers, Leo Powell and wife Judy of Palmyra, and Bob Powell and wife Keitha of Palmyra; three sisters, Anne Young and Bertha Guthrie, both of Quincy, Ill., and Christine Buckwalter of Milan, Ill.; 14 nephews and nine nieces; 11 great-nephews and one great-niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Carl Rhoades; sisters, Francis Duesdicker and Rosie Coultas; and brothers, Joseph Powell, James Powell and Johnny Powell.
She moved to Hannibal in 1938 and worked as a waitress until retiring in 1982. She attended the former St. Joseph Catholic School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra.
Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo. Father Christopher Smith will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services Thursday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Casket bearers will be Tom Powell, Jimmy Powell, Greg Buckwalter, Larry Buckwalter, David Williams, John Robert Powell and Dennis Guthrie.
