Ruby Jean Geist, 73, of Monroe City, died at 3:15 p.m. July 1, 2008, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 4, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Don Antweiler will officiate, and burial will be at St. Jude’s Cemetery in Monroe City.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, July 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a Scripture reading at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Geist was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Perry to Jess and Genevive (Story) Brashears. She was married to Andrew J. Geist Feb. 19, 1954, in Hannibal.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew J. Geist; five children, Ronald Geist and wife, Janet, Richard Geist and fiancé, Di East, Deanna Buckman and husband, Floyd, Robert Geist and wife, Shelley, and Nancy Hays and husband, Steve, all of Monroe City; two sisters, Katherine Crowe of Delaven, Ill., Peggy Ferguson of Quincy Ill., one stepsister, Doris Vollrath of Monroe City; one brother, Jess Jr. Brashears of Quincy; one stepbrother, Stanley Hawn of Clapper; 13 grandchildren, Andy Geist, Melanie Geist, Joe Geist, Sarah Geist, Dee Dee Geist, Jacki Potterfield, Kerri Buckman, Kyle Buckman, Travis Geist, Kalie Geist, Seth Hays, Katy Hays, Madison Hays; and three great-grandchildren, Brenden Geist, Samantha Geist and Ava Potterfield.a
Mrs. Geist was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Fred, Billy and Ray Brashears; one sister, Goldie Gray; and one grandson, Floyd Buckman Jr.
She was employed at Tri B of Monroe City and retired from Kuhlman Diecasting in 1990. She was a member of the Monroe City Baptist Church, a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post and a volunteer at the Nutrition Center and the Monroe City Manor.
Ruby loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing, shopping with her daughters and the occasional trip to the boat.
Pallbearers will be Joe Geist, Andy Geist, Travis Geist, Kyle Buckman and Seth Hays. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Monroe City VFW Post No. 4240 or the American Cancer Society.
Garner Funeral Home & Chapel in Monroe City is in charge of arrangements.
