Kyle Wilson, 58, of Hannibal, died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at his son’s home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Chuck Todd will officiate. Burial will be at the Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook, Ill.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Burial will be at the Kinderhook Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55.

Mr. Wilson was born Sept. 6, 1951, in Hannibal, Mo., to John Wayne and Erma Charlene Fantz Wilson.

Survivors include four sons, Chris Wilson (Sarah), Edward Wilson (Ashley Monroe), Robie Wilson (Kimberly Grimes), and Caleb McAfee-Wilson, all of Hannibal, Mo.; three daughters, Kara Wilson (Jordan Niemeyer), Trischia Wilson (Jared Tate) and Jordan Malone, all of Hannibal, Mo.; one brother, Kirk Wilson (Kathy), of Hannibal, Mo.; three sisters, Keri Carroll (Mark), Payson, Ill., Kathy Newlon (Eric McNeal), Hannibal, Mo., and LeeAnn Wilson, Quincy, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Patrice Wilson, Collinsville, Ill.; one aunt, Dora Horstmeyer of Hannibal, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Austin, Lydia, Madelyn, Evan, Kelton, Abigail, Sheltyn, Shaelyn, Jaetyn and Kyler; and many nieces, nephews and great friends.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Kim Wilson.

Kyle was a 1969 graduate of Hannibal High School.  He was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 until 1975 when he was honorably discharged. Kyle later worked as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service from 1979 until 2008. He deeply cared about his community and was active in serving on the Hannibal City Council from 1989 until 2008. He also served on many other boards and commissions for both the city and county. Kyle loved sports, especially golf, baseball, and the New York Yankees. He attended the Grace Covenant Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the many wonderful people Kyle got to know and work with throughout his many years of public service. The family would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care offered by Dr. Bari and Dr. Bean to Kyle during his illness.  

Pallbearers will be Ed Givan, Mike Fohey, Rodney Ferris, Delford Groves, Bill Lankford, Tom Calvert, Roger Walton, Bobby Hardin and Craig Elsner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Edward Wilson, Robie Wilson, Caleb McAfee, Kim Wilson, Jim Dexhiemer, Bill Schanbacher and Roy Hark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Covenant Baptist Church in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
