Verna Romberg, age 92, formerly of Quincy, Ill., died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her home in Johnston, Iowa.
She was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Wittenburg, Mo., the daughter of Otto and Lucia Buenger Hemmann. On June 10, 1939, she was married to James Henry Romberg in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death July 28, 2002.
Verna attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Hannibal and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1936. Verna was a telephone operator for several years after graduating from high school.
Verna was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal, and at St. James Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy.
Survivors include three children, Allan Romberg and his wife Dorothy, Elk Grove Village, Ill., Gayle Eggerstadt and her husband Kim, Johnston, Iowa, and David Romberg and his wife Teri, Aurora, Colo.; her brother, Cliff Hemmann, Quincy; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Wollenburg officiating. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park, Hannibal, Mo.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
