Robert Lee “Bob” Atkinson, 65, of Saverton, Mo., died at 6:53 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Mr. Atkinson will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. There are no services planned at this time.

Mr. Atkinson was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Hannibal, Mo., to Junior Lee and Roberta Amy Thompson Atkinson.

Survivors include his mother, Roberta Atkinson of Saverton, Mo.; one son, Scott Atkinson; and one sister, Sandra Hubbard (Art) of Saverton, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandmothers and grandfathers.

Mr. Atkinson was a United States Army veteran and was stationed in France for three years. Bob was a retired over-the-road truck driver. He was also his mother’s caretaker for 17 years. Bob loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking walks. Mr. Atkinson was baptized at Salt River Christian Church. He is loved by his family and friends and will be missed.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jimmy and the staff at O’Donnell’s Funeral Home, Progressive Care and Intensive Care at Hannibal Regional Hospital and also to Dee Dee, Earl, Marsha, Brad and Gay.

Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary Cemetery or to the American Cancer Society in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
