Doris Jean Nickell Kendall, 68, of New London, died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Bruce Willard will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, and Monday 10 a.m. until time of services at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kendall was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Gravity, Iowa to Horace and Stella Diggs Nickell.
She was married to Marion Kendall on Oct. 1, 1966, in Moberly. He survives.
Other survivors include one son, Robert Kendall (Susan) of Mayesville, Mo.; two daughters, Renee Phareau (Michelin) of Greenacres, Fla., and Regina Kendall (Bob Miles) of Quincy, Ill.; five brothers, Marvin Nickell of Gretna, Neb., Steven Nickell (Vicki) of Ankeny, Iowa, Galen Nickell (Marcia) of Gravity, Iowa, Edwin Nickell (Pam) of Clearfield, Iowa, and Gordon Nickell (Peggy) of Denton, Texas; five grandchildren, Zephaniah, Josh, and Hannah Kendall, and Steffen and Brian Phareau; one aunt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kendall was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Liz Nickell, one niece and one nephew.
Mrs. Kendall attended Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, and later attended Hannibal-LaGrange College, where she earned an associates degree and a bachelors degree. She received her masters degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. Mrs. Kendall was a teacher at the Silex R-I Schools for 20 years before retiring in 2004. She loved playing computer games and spending time with her grandchildren. She was especially proud of her children’s education and their graduation from college. Mrs. Kendall was a proud 11-year breast cancer survivor. She enjoyed volunteering for Blessing Hospice and the Blessing Cancer Center. She was a member of the Madison Park Christian Church, Quincy, Ill.
Pallbearers will be James Faske, Ryan Nickell, Kevin Nickell, Shane Long, Terry Long and Tom Van Meter.
Memorials may be made to Madison Park Christian Church, Quincy Ill., or Community Christian Church Phareau Haiti Mission in West Palm Beach Fla., in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
