Leland W. Carson, 76, of Hannibal, passed away at 6:23 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Leland W. Carson, 76, of Hannibal, passed away at 6:23 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Burial with full military honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

Friends and family are invited to Leland’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at the funeral home.

Leland was born on Oct. 31, 1941, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Sylvester and Ruby Hittson Carson.

He was married on July 2, 1990, in Hannibal to Ruth Ann Robertson. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2011.

Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Carson (Robert Wisdom) of Hannibal; one brother, Wayne Carson of Hannibal; three sisters, Emma Orange (James) of Aurora, Colo., Agnes “Aggie” Robertson of Hannibal, and Mary Belle Allen of Hannibal; three grandchildren, Austin Hatton, Shane Wisdom and Chad Wisdom; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kaylee, Leland and Wyatt. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Chuck Carson and Robert Carson.

Leland served his country proudly in the United States Army.

Professionally Leland worked as a butcher and meat cutter for many years. Leland worked at many area establishments over the years including Rosser’s Market, Country Butcher Shop and Oakwood Market. 

Away from work Leland enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. A car ride around Hannibal or catching his favorite game show, “Jeopardy,” were activities that Leland always enjoyed. A talented cook and baker, Leland made the best vegetable soup and also made delicious pecan and cherry pies. Leland enjoyed most of all spending  time with his family.

Leland was a Christian by faith.

Pallbearers will be Austin Hatton, Shane Wisdom, Chad Wisdom, Adam Carson, Joe Cramlett, Dar Hurley and Seth Carson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Carson, Jeremy Allen, Ronnie Caldwell and Jeff Carson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
