Vyrle Marie Miller Brown, 88, walked into paradise on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be at the Willow Street Christian Church on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, beginning at 10 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. The Reverend Minnie Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.

Vyrle was born Oct. 7, 1929 to Happy Elmer and Margie Eliza Hawkins Miller in Frankford. Vyrle married John Matthew (Jack) Brown on Oct. 2, 1950. They were married for 62 years until Jack's death in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jesse Miller and Austin Miller; and one grandchild, David Brown.

She is survived by her two sisters, Katherine Salmon (Matthew) and Barbara Moore; two daughters, Jacqua La Fawn and Marjorie Sue Brown; one son, James Franklin Brown; 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tanisha Brown, Cassie Brown, James Moten, William Brown, John Matthew Brown, Daniel Brown, Jamesa Brown, Shakila Henry, Angela Brown, DJ Brown, and John Charles Brown.

Vyrle was the oldest of five children and was educated in Frankford. She went on to graduate from Douglass High School in 1948.

She was the first African-American department head at St. Elizabeth Hospital where she was employed for 40 years. She retired in 1984 and as the dietary director for the hospital.

Vyrle gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She was a member of Willow Street Christian church of Hannibal, for over 60 years. She was active in Christian Education and CWF. Her church legacy is local, statewide, national and international. The pinnacle of Vyrle’s legacy as a disciple was when she began a Saturday morning Bible Study for her fellow residents at Beth Haven apartments.

Vyrle's life touched many. She lived “love” through discipleship for those Jesus called THE LEAST OF THESE!
