Maxine E. Tarpein, 99, of Hannibal, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at the Country Aire Retirement Estate in Lewistown.

Maxine E. Tarpein, 99, of Hannibal, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at the Country Aire Retirement Estate in Lewistown.

Private burial will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. There will be no service or visitation. The family is being served by the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Maxine was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Oakland, Calif.

She was married to Fred Leroy Tarpein in 1945 in Oakland, Calif. He preceded her in death June 12, 2016.

Survivors include two children, Stephen Charles Tarpein (Erin) of Lincoln, Calif., and Gary Earl Tarpein of Knox County, Mo.; one grandchild, Ryan McHenry Tarpein (Amanda); and two great-grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Otto Newman.

Maxine was a homemaker. She was a talented artist and enjoyed painting landscapes and portraits. Maxine was a gifted seamstress, sewing much of her sons' clothing growing up. Maxine also enjoyed fishing with her husband.
