Richard L. “Dick” Powell, 72, of Hannibal, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Richard L. “Dick” Powell, 72, of Hannibal, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Burial will follow at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Dick’s Life Celebration will be held during a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Dick was born May 19, 1945, in Palmyra to B.C. and Grace Powell.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McSorely Powell, whom he married on Nov. 30, 1962 in Keokuk, Iowa.

Other survivors include two children, Richard L. Powell, Jr. (Kim) of Dardenne Prairie, and Richella Pipkin (Mike) of Hannibal; and three grandchildren, Caylyn Powell, Kristin Pipkin and Alayna Pipkin. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other special family members.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Krigbaum; and an infant daughter, Melissa Powell.

Professionally, Dick worked as a heavy machine operator at Continental Cement for over 30 years before retiring.

Dick had many hobbies that he enjoyed with family and friends. He could often be found fishing on the Mississippi River and spending time at his river camp. A talented cook, Dick enjoyed barbecuing and smoking meats for family dinners and gatherings. Listening to Bluegrass music and playing on his banjo were favorite pastimes. Like his mother, he never passed up a good mystery book. Additionally, Dick spent time on Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR races on TV. His favorite activities were ones in which he simply shared time with his family.

Dick was a member of the 5th Street Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the James E. Cary Cancer Center.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pipkin, Brandon Krigbaum, Steve Willing, Mark Willing, Jeff Hinds and Lee Mac Hinds.

Honorary pallbearer will be Wilbur "Junior" McSorley.
