Emma Lou Wells, 90, of New London, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Emma Lou Wells, 90, of New London, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Edward R. Wright will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in New London.

Friends and family are invited to Emma Lou’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Emma Lou was born Oct. 28, 1927, in New London, to Roy and Fannie Bright Allison.

She was married to Orville C. Wells. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include eight children, Gloria Burton (Larry) of New London, Theresa Sisk (Curtis) of Des Moines, Iowa, Melvin Wells of Des Moines, Iowa, Rodney Wells of New London, Joy McPike (Mike) of Hannibal, Randy Wells (Janet) of Hannibal, Dewayne Wells of Hannibal and Kent Wells of New London; 13 grandchildren, Vonzell, Marshelle, Genise, Mikey, Chanel, Gary, Melvin, Shawntez, Nyla, DeShawn, Davion, Isaiah and Morgan; one brother, Tony Robinson of Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters, Wanda McBride of Hannibal, Mildred Hobbs of Des Moines, Iowa, Phyllis Woods (Rev. Jerald, Sr.) of Des Moines, Iowa and Meredith Burton of Des Moines, Iowa.

She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Dante Wells; and one stepson, Van Wells; her brothers and sisters, Roy Allison Jr., James Allison Sr., Harper Allison Sr., Lincoln Allison Sr., Sandra Mae Talton, Rosalyn Kay Robinson, Gary "Buck" Robinson, Mabel Oneta Hawkins and Carl Edward Allison.

Emma Lou retired from the Cerf Brothers Company in New London. Over the years she had also worked other occupations.

Family was central to Emma Lou’s life. She loved to spend time together with family and travel to visit them. A talented cook and baker, Emma Lou made delicious fried chicken, hot rolls, apple cobbler, as well as other delights. Emma Lou enjoyed watching and feeding birds, especially hummingbirds.

Shopping was always something that Emma Lou took pleasure in. Trips to Wal-Mart usually involved more visiting with acquaintances than shopping. Reading her Bible or watching her favorite game show or soap opera were also activities that Emma Lou enjoyed.

Emma Lou was a faithful member of the Steward Carter Temple – Church of God In Christ in New London.

Pallbearers will be Brian Burton, Patrick Lewis, James Allison, Edward Padilla, Henry Erby and Gordon Fountain.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Wells, Curtis Sisk, Michael McPike, Larry Burton and Melvin Wells.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Cemetery or the Steward Carter Temple-Church of God in Christ.
