Betty J. House, 88, of Palmyra, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Betty Joan (Schaeffer) House, 88, of Palmyra, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Mo. Rev. Paul Reese will officiate.
Friends and family are invited to Betty's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Betty was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Palmyra, to Robert and Gladys Young Schaeffer.
She was married to Bill House on June 9, 1959, in Palmyra. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sisters, Gula Elwood of Palmyra and Katherine Bier (Murray) of Eustis, Fla. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, June Myers, Eunice House and Betty House; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Myrmell Tourney and husband, Harold, and Roberta Esswien and husband, Eddie; and brothers-in-law, Charles C. Myers, Kenneth Elwood, Harry House, and Dan House; and one great-nephew, Chris Myers.
Betty was a graduate of Palmyra High School. She enjoyed a long working career as bank teller at Palmyra State Bank. She greeted all customers with a smile and friendly hello.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra where for many years she kept Sunday School attendance records.
During her retirement years, Betty enjoyed daily drives with her husband through the countryside, stopping to visit family and friends along the way. Also, over the years she would take trips with her loving sisters. She was a loving aunt, who cherished the times with her nieces and nephews, thinking of them as her own.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Maple Lawn Nursing Home Auxiliary.
Pallbearers will be Charlie D. Myers, Bill Heibel, Jim House, Steve House, Mickey Tourney and Mike Tourney.
