Mary Cecelia (Cele) Saunders Ryan, 69, of Hannibal, Mo., (formerly of the Lakenan and Monroe City, Mo. communities) passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at the Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., with her loved ones at her side.

Mary Cecelia (Cele) Saunders Ryan, 69, of Hannibal, Mo., (formerly of the Lakenan and Monroe City, Mo. communities) passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at the Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., with her loved ones at her side.

She was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of Harry C. and Thelma Elizabeth Hayden Saunders. Cele was raised of the Catholic faith. She was a 1965 graduate of Holy Rosary High School, Monroe City, Mo. She went on to graduate from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo. in 1968.

She worked at several area hospitals in Missouri and Illinois as a Registered Nurse. Her specialty was mental health and she was passionate about helping those patients.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Lakenan, where she could be found fishing at "Pete's Pond." Cele enjoyed spending time with her family, most of all her children and grandchildren who she loved dearly.

Survivors include one son, Josh Edwards of Monroe City; three daughters, Amy Lewis (Tim), Hannibal, Mo.; Lindsey DeClue of Columbia, Mo. and Beverly Quinn (Jim) of Springfield, Ill.; one brother, Harry L. Saunders (Jane) of Kirkwood, Missouri; one sister, Cynthia Duffy of Downers Grove, Ill. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Evan, Christopher, Josie, Olivia, Eliza, Peyton, Jamie and Erin; and one great-granddaughter, Reagan. She is also survived by mother-in-law Glenda Ryan of Monroe City, Mo.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Garrett Saunders.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Mo. Fr. Mike Penn will officiate. Burial will be held at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Shelbina, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening, at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Tim Lewis, Mike Duffy, Phillip Saunders, Mark Saunders, Tim Lacy and Jim Quinn.

Memorial donations can be made to Holy Family Catholic School Foundation or Holy Rosary School.
