Larry R. McGee, 76, of Genoa, Ill., died Monday, July 3, 2017, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Born Jan. 30, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo., he was the son of Otis and Margaret (Bowden) McGee. Larry was a graduate of Hannibal High School Class of 1958. He attended Missouri School of Mine, now part of the University of Missouri.

In April 1971, he accepted a blind date with an “easterner.” Three days later he proposed. Larry married Barbara Reeves on Aug. 14, 1971, at St. Dorothy’s Church in Drexel Hill, Penn.

Larry’s career was spent in the area of commercial printing in both sales and management. He was a longtime licensed ham radio operator, his call letters were KF9E. Larry collected antique ham radios, restored antique cars, 1960 and 1961 Cadillac and Rivieras, and enjoyed working at his “barn.”

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara (Barb) McGee; his siblings, Nancy (Charles) Calvert of Kansas City, Mo., Carolyn (John Mack) Ellis of New London, Mo., Otis Clayton (April) McGee Jr. of Dubuque, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Ann Reeves of Pennsylvania; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Malcolm and Lois Reeves; and his brother-in-law, David Reeves.

At his request, cremation has taken place and there will not be a service. His remains will be returned to his hometown to be buried alongside his parents at a later date. Also going with him will be the ashes of his beloved Afghan hounds, Shannon, Sir Shane, Kendall, Kassie and Nyah.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tails Humane Society in DeKalb, Ill.
