Ida May VanZandt, 86, of Hannibal, Mo., formerly of Quincy, Ill., passed away at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo.

Ida May VanZandt, 86, of Hannibal, Mo., formerly of Quincy, Ill., passed away at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo. Burial will be at Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, Ill.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Ida was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Hannibal, Mo. to John Oliver and Ruth VanDament Sherman.

She was previously married in 1950 to Harold E. Powell. He preceded her in death.

Ida later married James Albert VanZandt on Dec. 1, 1973, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 28, 2009.

Survivors include her four children, Gloria Murphy of Hannibal, Mo., James Powell of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard Powell of Quincy, Ill., and Thomas Powell of Virginia; four stepchildren; and one brother, Bill Sherman. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Sherman; two sisters, Nona Wagner and Mary Walden; and one son-in-law, James T. Murphy.

Born and raised in the Oakwood community near Hannibal, Ida worked at the Sherman's Market in Oakwood, operated by her parents.

A graduate of Hannibal High School, Ida later worked at Western Printing and McDonald's in Quincy, Ill.

Ida was a talented seamstress, she also enjoyed bingo and fishing and camping. She took great pleasure in caring for her cats.

Most of all, Ida cherished the time she shared with her family.

Ida attended the Prince Avenue Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Mike Moyers, Eric Cox, Danny Murphy, Donnie Murphy, John Wagner and Ted Schuetz.
