Betty I. Gudgel, 91, of Vandalia, Ill., formerly of Hull, Ill., passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Vandalia, Ill.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017, at  Aker Chapel Cemetery, rural Hull, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aker Chapel Cemetery, rural Hull, Ill.

Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Hull, Ill., the daughter of Harvey H. and Katherine H. (Pfrimmer) Lewton. She married Marvin L. Gudgel on Nov. 27, 1943, Hannibal, Mo. He passed away April 25, 2001.

She was a member of Hull Methodist Church, Hull, Ill., lifetime member of the Eastern Star and 600 Bowling Club. Betty was a retired postmaster at Hull Post Office, Hull, Ill., and loved playing bridge and collecting antiques.

She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Niffen, Nauvoo, Ill., and Janice Jackson, Payson, Ill.; grandchildren, Chad Jackson, Joseph Niffen and Andrea Massey; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Nestrick Sommer and family, Vandalia, Ill.; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Robert Niffen Jr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maurice and June Gudgel; and nrother-in-law, Harold Nestrick.
