Hannibal, MO —

Ninety-five pre-kindergarten through second grade summer school students experienced a field trip June 18, 2009.
Ralls RII summer school students toured Curryville Fisheries and Starlight Alpaca Ranch as guests of Ralls County Soil and Water Conservation District.
The students were exposed to several different areas of interest at the Hatchery. Two popular experiences were casting in the pond and holding a hand full of small live minnows. Mr. Ted Werenski, owner of Curryville Hatchery, guided the tour and educated students to the profession of Fish “Farming.” The final stop on the field trip was to Starlight Alpaca Ranch between Center and New London.  Mr. and Mrs. Tom Martin, owner, allowed the students mingle with all ages of Alpacas. The students were excited when an Alpaca chose their feeding bowl and some of the Alpacas ate food from students’ hands.
The annual field trips would not be possible without the support from local businesses. Sponsors of the field trip were: Perry Farm Service; Steve Lewton, American Family Insurance; Center Locker; Farmers Cooperative Services Inc., New London; Abel Oil Company; Liter Fertilizer; Hickman IGA; Ruba’s General Store; Ralls County Electric Cooperative; General Mills; and Missouri Soybean Association.
