More than three years after a tornado caused extensive damage, First Baptist Church of Monroe City is ready to dedicate its new sanctuary.
The event begins with special music at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, with the dedication service at 2:30.
Many of the stained glass windows from the old sanctuary were salvaged and have been incorporated into the new worship area.
The March 12, 2006, tornado destroyed parts of the church and many homes and businesses in Monroe City.
A $2.6 million insurance settlment and more than $150,000 in donations covered the demolition and rebuilding.
The sanctuary has seating for 280 people. The 15,790-square-foot addition also features offices, a choir room, nursery and classrooms.
The church is observing it s140th anniversary during Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. service.
