Silex, MO —

Donations will be part of the celebration at the Silex Fall Festival.
September flooding damaged dozens of homes, several businesses and two churches in this Lincoln County town of 206 residents.
The festival will go on Oct. 11, but has been scaled back.
“We are moving forward with it,” said organizer Mary Ann Meives. “The community wanted to do it.”
A booth will be set up in the hospitality area to take donations. People are asked to bring non-perishable foods and personal care products. Cash also will be accepted.
The theme of the event is “The Wild, Wild West.” Activities include a fun run/walk, parade, karaoke, horseshoe tournament, kiddie tractor pull, calf roping and contests.
There also will be a beer garden and street dance, with food, crafts and a visit by a medical helicopter.
“Residents and businesses in and around town have been deeply affected, but we hope that a day of fun and games will provide a much-needed break from the cleanup work,” Meives said. “We’re going to have a good day. It’ll be fun for everybody.”
Silex Banking Company also is taking flood-relief donations. Contributions may be dropped off or mailed to 20 S. Second, Silex, Mo., 63377.
More information about the festival is available by calling Meives at (573) 384-6142.
