For the second year in a row, the Hannibal Cavemen will kick off their season at home. The Cavemen’s 2010 schedule was announced Friday by the Prospect League.
The Cavemen will start the season on Thursday, June 3, against one of the league’s four expansion teams - the Dekalb County Liners.
Bob Hemond, one of the Cavemen owners, said release of the league’s 2010 schedule was delayed by the league as it worked the Liners, Terre Haute Rex, Beckley Miners and Nashville Outlaws into the mix.
One of the upsides to the league’s offseason growth spurt is that the Cavemen will now have 28 games at Clemens Field this season, which will include five home games against the Quincy Gems. The Cavemen will first host the Gems on Monday, June 6. The other home dates against Quincy will be on Tuesday, June 15; Thursday, July 22; Friday, July 30; and Saturday, Aug. 7. The Aug. 7 date will mark the end of the regular season.
Hemond promised more in-stadium fun for fans in the form of additional giveaway nights, on-field promotions and fireworks nights. He added that details regarding promotions, game times and the sale of individual game tickets will be announced at a later date. Information regarding the purchase of season tickets is available now by calling (573) 221-1010.
Jay Hemond, manager of the Cavemen, said an announcement regarding the Cavemen’s 2010 roster is planned the first week of March.
