A Hannibal man was arrested for animal abuse after allegedly stomping a dog to death over the weekend.
Officers went to the 300 block of Willow at 3:41 p.m. Saturday after a woman brought the body of a deceased dog to animal control officers.
The dog, a small Pomeranian mix, belonged to an 18-year-old woman. It had severe head trauma. Police were told the unidentified 31-year-old suspect, who lived at the residence, picked up the dog and threw it down on a roadway outside the residence after it tried to bite him.
Authorities reported they were told the man continued his attack until the animal quit moving. The man was released, pending the issuance of a warrant.
