River watch: Mississippi still falling

The Mississippi River continued its retreat Friday afternoon in Northeast Missouri. The drop ranged from 0.15 of a foot in Clarksville (28.84 feet) to 0.30 of a foot in Hannibal (19.28 feet).
According to the National Weather Service, the downward trend will end next week. After dipping to 19.1 feet Friday evening, the river will begin to rise Sunday morning, March 21.
The Mississippi is forecast to crest at 20.2 feet Wednesday evening, March 24. Last week’s crest topped out at 20.15 feet.
Moderate flood stage in Hannibal begins at 18 feet. Major flooding starts at 22 feet.
