Louisiana, MO —

Louisiana expects thousands of people for its Country Colorfest celebration.
Now, all it needs is a few volunteers.
More than a dozen helpers have been lined up. With just two weeks to go, only five more are needed to cover the chores involved in staging the Oct. 18-19 event.
“We want to make sure we’ve got enough people,” said chairwoman Mona Brown. “We don’t want people working 10-hour to 12-hour days.”
A recruitment meeting is planned at 9:30 a.m. today at Louisiana City Hall, Third and South Carolina.
Volunteers are needed to help with traffic control by keeping cars from going around barricades, especially during Saturday’s parade.
A few changes will accompany the traditional favorites such as the car and motorcycle shows, arts and crafts and various contests.
Most activities will remain in their usual places along Georgia Street from the riverfront to Seventh.
However, the entertainment stage is to be moved from its spot at Fifth and Georgia two blocks west to the front of the Masonic Temple.
“We’re trying to do some new things,” Brown said.
The 24th annual festival will take on added significance this year because Louisiana is celebrating its 190th anniversary. Brown said things are shaping up well.
“It gets hectic at this time,” she said. “You plan and plan and plan, and then you wing it.”
People who miss today’s recruitment can attend Colorfest committee meetings at 5 p.m. Oct. 8 at the chamber office in city hall or at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Eagle’s Nest restaurant, Third and Georgia.
More information is available by calling Brown at (573) 754-4190, the chamber office at (573) 754-5921 or logging on to www.louisiana-mo.com.
