The North East Community Action Corporation has been awarded $552,000 for home renovations, NECAC President and Chief Executive Officer Don Patrick announced.
The not-for-profit agency, based in Bowling Green, has received $418,000 in state DREAM Initiative funding and a $134,000 grant from the Home Repair Opportunity (HeRO) program through the Missouri Housing Development Commission.
DREAM is an acronym for Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance. The state program provides help with planning and financial assistance.
NECAC will use the $418,000 in DREAM funding for home repairs in Hannibal, Louisiana and Macon.
The HeRO grant will pay for work in Lewis, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Shelby counties.
Funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis under both programs.
Repairs of up to $20,000 per home can be made, with a likely average of $10,000 to $12,000 per home. Applicants must meet income guidelines and own their homes.
The maximum income for participants generally is between $35,600 and $43,200 for a family of four, depending on where the family lives.
Projects include roof and heating system replacements, siding, electrical and plumbing projects and handicapped accessibility improvements.
NECAC weatherization crews will do the work or will subcontract the projects.
NECAC was one of 20 agencies to receive grants from $4 million in statewide funding for 2010.
