A quilt has been put together again this year for the Tom & Becky Program to raffle off with the help and donation from Pat Wealder, owner of the Hickory Stick and Christy McCourt, designer.
The quilt is called “Mark Twain’s Journey”.
“Mark Twain’s Journey” is part of a limited Edition fabric by the Windham fabrics Co. The fabrics are inspired by Sam’s personal artifacts and antiques, and the patterns and color palette are reminiscent of both typical and not–so–typical designs from this important historical period of the late 19th Century.
This design is an original of Christy McCourt. It will be available at the Hickory Stick along with many other patterns she has designed.
Christy McCourt from New London is one of Pat Wealders sewers for the store. Christy took on the challenge to make the quilt all on her own this year. Christy is also a member of the Quilter Guild and a member of project Linus, which makes quilts for sick children in need for their stay in the hospital.
Christy started quilting six years ago. Christy’s, and her husband, Shawn Ebers, have four children. Belinda Ebers is Christy’s mom, which is where Christy got her interest and talent to quilt along with her grandma Irene, and a sewing machine for her birthday helped out, too. She is also a graduate of Mark Twain High, and has degree in education and history. She also substitute teaches for Ralls County Schools.
In her spare time, she designs quilts, along with this quilt design that will be raffled off in October during the Folklife Festival.
Raffle tickets will be available to purchase at the arts & crafts fairs in Central Park during National Tom Sawyer Days, at the Tom & Becky Booth that will be located on the northwest corner of the fountain area. The quilt will be on display at the Hickory Stick after the Craft Fair and tickets will always be available at the Hickory Stick at any time. It will travel with Tom & Becky to any fundraisers throughout the year until the October Folklife Festival, when the quilt will be raffled off. Tickets will be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5.
