Hannibal firefighters were on the scene of a propane leak for almost two hours Wednesday afternoon on the city’s South Side.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of Fulton Avenue at 2:10 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the residence had already been evacuated. The homeowner had also shut off the main valve at the tank.
Entering the home firefighters encountered a high level of propane. They set up a fan to ventilate the structure.
Firefighters remained on the scene until a commercial propane dealer arrived. During a check of the structure a small leak was discovered at a gas cooking appliance. A search for additional leaks was being conducted by the dealer when firefighters returned to quarters.
