Hannibal, MO —

The two men who were hospitalized after suffering serious injuries in a double stabbing early Sunday morning, May 11, in downtown Hannibal remained in the hospital on Monday.
Lt. James Hark of the Hannibal Police Department reported Monday they are not in the intensive care unit but remained in hospital rooms. Both are expected to recover. Both are Hannibal men, ages 29 and 27.
Kenneth J. Barnes, 30, of Hannibal, who was arrested after the stabbing, has been charged with two counts of first degree assault, Hark said.
Conviction of this felony has a possible punishment of no less than 10 years or more than 30 years to life with the Department of Corrections of Missouri.
Barnes’ bond was set at $100,000, cash only, and he remained in custody on Monday.
The police learned of the assault at 12:27 a.m. Sunday when they were called to the 200 block of South Main Street.
When they arrived, they learned the suspect, Barnes, had fled in his vehicle.
A vehicle matching the description of his was spotted, and when the police attempted to stop him, Barnes drove across the Mark Twain Bridge into Illinois.
Officers continued to pursue the suspect vehicle, and it stopped shortly after exiting Interstate 336 near the Illinois 106 Hull exit.
There the police arrested Barnes without incident, Hark reported.
Barnes was taken to the Pike County, Ill., Jail, where he awaited extradition back to Missouri. On Monday afternoon, Hark reported he was still awaiting Barnes’ return to Missouri.
