The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program can help Marion County residents with their taxes.
Trained volunteers will provide free basic tax preparation and electronic filing for people who make up to about $40,000 a year.
The service will available by appointment only through the tax season on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Douglass Community Services at 711 Grand in Hannibal, the North East Community Action Corporation office at 917 Broadway in Hannibal and Bicentennial Library at 212 S. Main in Palmyra.
Appointments can be made by calling (573) 221-3892. Refunds from e-mail filings can be transferred directly to a bank account. Representatives from US Bank will be at VITA sites to assist in setting up an account.
The service is made possible by a partnership between the University of Missouri Extension, the United Way of the Mark Twain Area and RSVP.
