Bowling Green, MO —

The not for profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC), a 12 county area social service, community health and public housing Community Action Agency is seeking applications for its  energy saving Home Weatherization Program.
Income qualifying residents can have the weatherization work done on their home free of charge and can save up to 30 percent on their utility bills.  NECAC receives funding for the program through service contracts with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
“The NECAC weatherization program offers long term solutions to energy consumption problems,” said Susan Duncan, NECAC Home Weatherization and Rehabilitation Programs Director.
Weatherization services available to qualifying low-income clients include home energy audits, sealing air leaks, ensuring the main heating system works  safely and efficiently, insulating of walls, attics and floors and various other air sealing work.
The program is available in Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, St. Charles, Shelby and Warren Counties. There is a waiting list for services in some counties.
Missouri Department of National Resources statistics show home weatherization can reduce average annual energy costs by 12.2 percent for houses that heat with electricity and 30 percent for homes that heat with natural gas.  A study shows that every dollar invested in weatherization results in a non-energy benefit of $1.28.
NECAC operates and delivers a variety of programs and services to qualifying, low-income, elderly, youth, handicapped, and disadvantaged participates through grants and contracts with federal, state, and local governments, private businesses, and other non-profit organizations.
