Three Canton residents were among four people hurt in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in Lewis County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 8 p.m. on Missouri 16, one mile west of Monticello. A 2001 Pontiac driven by Christina Kaltaske of Baring was westbound when she lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered road. The vehicle crossed the center line where it struck a 1999 Chevrolet driven by 22-year-old Tracy Schmitz of Canton which went off the road, down an embankment and overturned.
Kaltaske and Schmitz both sustained moderate injuries as did 23-year-old Daisy Pittman of Canton, who was a passenger in the Schmitz vehicle. Pittman’s infant son, Jeremiah Brumbaugh, who also was in the Schmitz vehicle, was left with minor injuries. Kaltaske and the infant were wearing safety devices at the time of the accident while Pittman and Schmitz reportedly were not.
The injured were taken by ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
