A former West-Central Illinois coach who also taught in Missouri has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a former student.
Under a plea agreement, 33-year-old Geoff Dalton was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
He pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. Dalton originally was charged with four counts of sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Dalton admitted to having sex with a female student while he was a teacher and football coach in the Unity school district at Mendon, Ill.
The girl was 14 at the time of the first of four sexual encounters with Dalton, who left Mendon at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. He taught in a school district near Kansas City until his arrest last fall.
State law requires Dalton to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence and be registered as a sex offender.
