Tha Hannibal Heritage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Kathi Moore, from the Missouri Department of Conservation, presented a program on Missouri owls. She brought an exhibit of several owls and explained their differences and similarities. She explained their food chain, habitat and current methods of owl research. She also demonstrated the softness of the owl feathers which enable the owls to fly virtually silent through the night.
The Hannibal Heritage Chapter DAR is collecting items to send in packages to troops serving overseas. Last year members sent nine priority boxes which went to Iraq and Afghanistan. In order to help defray the cost of mailing, club members will host a silent auctio at the Dec. 7 meeting, which will be at the home of Betty Hams, 10673 Orchard Road. Mrs. Hams will also present a program on “Egypt Then and Now” from her recent trip to the region.
Anyone interested in helping with the endeavor to send wanted/needed items to troops fighting to insure our continued freedoms, please contact Darby Morgan (573) 221-8438, or Cheryl Harbourn (573) 221-0104.
