A Shelbina man has withdrawn his name from the city marshal’s race because of a guilty plea to a felony drug charge.
City ordinance allowed Jim Smallwood to file for the April 6 election, but he would not have been able to serve if elected.
Court records show Smallwood pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance in Monroe County on Oct. 7, 1998, and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Smallwood’s withdrawal leaves two candidates for the four-year position, Sean M. Baymiller and Daniel N. Dovin. Incumbent Marshal Jenni Rash did not seek re-election.
