Military veterans from several organizations will participate in Hannibal’s annual Veterans Day parade, which will begin at noon today, Nov. 7, at 10th and Broadway. The parade route will turn on North Main Street and end at the Tom and Huck statue at the end of North Main.
More than 100 new wedding gowns in a variety of sizes will be sold at $100 each on Sunday, Nov. 8, in a benefit for the Hannibal Salvation Army.
The Gates Family will be performing a concert at the Palmyra United Methodist Church, 120 West Olive, Palmyra, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. The Gates Family has been singing and traveling for more than 25 years. The family consists of Craig and Pam, Craig singing baritone, bass, and plays guitar. Pam is an artist and writer. Deborah sings, plays piano and teaches piano. Sara sings the high parts, plays fiddle, and piano. Carin sings, plays bass and guitar. Matthew Johnson takes care of the sound for the group. Nathan, sings, plays guitar, banjo and bass. Charity sings and plays mandolin. Caleb joins in on the singing and plays the dobro.

Tim Carter arrived at work Friday morning, just like has on most week days since he was named Hannibal’s fire chief three years ago. But this Friday was different. On this day he was cleaning personal effects from his office.
Hannibal Fire Chief Tim Carter has been placed on administrative leave by the Fire Board. Councilman Jason Janes, who is a member of that three-person administrative body, confirmed Friday the action was taken during a special meeting of the board Thursday night.

A temporary bypass will be put into effect on U.S. 36 near the Macon and Shelby County line beginning Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The length of time the diversion will be in effect is weather dependent and a later news release will inform of project completion.
Hannibal police continued their search Friday for a second shoplifting suspect.
Officers got a report that two teens ran from Wal-Mart with a large television and a cart of merchandise without paying at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday.
Store personnel gave chase. The suspects dropped the merchandise in the parking lot and ran. Police worked with the store to develop the identities of the suspects.
On Wednesday, store personnel called police and said they’d caught a shoplifter who matched the identity of a suspect from the previous day’s incident.
The 16-year-old juvenile from Quincy, Ill., was released to the custody of the 10th Circuit Juvenile Office. The search for the other suspect continued.
