Jaycees hoping rain stays away

Among those who have been spending a lot of time watching The Weather Channel this week is Bryan Hammock, who is chairman of this year’s fireworks show for the Hannibal Jaycees. As Saturday night’s show has drawn closer, Hammock admits he’s turned his TV off.

A Louisiana man suffered minor injuries when his vehicle ran off the road while attempting to avoid a deer on Thursday night in Pike County.


Douglass Street in Shelby County to be closed July 8

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close to traffic Douglass Street on the north side of U.S. 36 on Wednesday, July 8, from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Douglass Street is located on the west edge of Shelbina in Shelby County.

Is the Fourth of July the busiest day of the year for the Hannibal Police Department?
“I don’t want to say it’s the busiest time, but it is one of the busiest times,” said Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis. “In years past it used to be quite the handful, but with the cooperation of the Jaycees and other people organizing events it has become a lot more manageable. Does it require a lot of additional staffing? Definitely so.”

HFD’s new pumper to arrive soon

Arrival of Hannibal’s newest piece of fire fighting equipment is due to arrive within the next month. Delivery of the pumper, which was put on order last September, is on schedule, according to Chief Tim Carter.
