Hannibal, MO —

A Hannibal woman whose husband was told she had been abducted in late May has been charged with making a false report.
She was back at home a few days after making this statement.
Earlier this week a warrant was issued for Candy M. Allen, 29, in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County, according to Lt. John Zerbonia, criminal investigations commander with the Hannibal Police Department.
Allen is charged with a Class B misdemeanor of making a false report, Zerbonia reported.
She was arrested Wednesday, June 11, and taken to the Marion County Jail in Palmyra with bond set at $5,000.
On Thursday the Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported she had been released from custody.
Zerbonia explained that the range of punishment for conviction of this misdemeanor is up to six months in a county jail, a fine of up to $500 or combination of fine and jail sentence within that range.
According to Zerbonia, Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Redington charges that Allen knowingly caused a false report to be made to the Hannibal Police Department when on May 26 through May 28, the HPD, Allen’s family and the local media received false information that Allen had been abducted against her will.
Her husband had made a missing person report to the police, and had requested an article be published in the Courier-Post. He said she had been in touch with him by e-mail but said she did not know where she was.
The article was scheduled to be published; however, her husband called to report she was back at home the night before it was to be published.
