Powell sentenced in sodomy case

Richard Powell, who was convicted of first degree statutory sodomy on May 15, was sentenced to 20 years with the Department of Corrections of Missouri on Tuesday, June 17. The 20-year sentence had been recommended by the jury.
Judge David Mobley presided at the jury trial, which was in Palmyra. Powell’s sentencing was in Hannibal, and he remained in custody after the sentence was heard Tuesday.
Powell, 71, of Monroe City, was charged with deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old.
He had filed a motion for a new trial, and the motion was denied by Judge Mobley.
