Hannibal, MO —

David John Jones, 28, of Hannibal, was arrested after an incident that began with a report of an assault late Sunday, June 29, in the parking lot at 202 Steamboat Bend Shopping Center.
Lt. James Hark reported the Hannibal Police Department was called to the scene in response to a report of an assault. According to the victim, an unknown male threatened him with a weapon and used racial slurs. The victim retreated to the business where he is employed, as the suspect fled in a vehicle, Hark said.
The officer’s investigation at the scene resulted in a positive identification of Jones as the suspect and a vehicle description. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were provided the information in an attempt to locate the suspect, Hark reported.
As officers continued their investigation at the scene, Jones’ vehicle was located by a Ralls County deputy, and after a pursuit and brief foot chase Jones was arrested.
Jones was later transported to the Marion County Jail on a 24-hour hold for assault (misdemeanor), interfere/resist arrest (misdemeanor), unlawful use of a weapon (felony), and hate crime (felony).
A state warrant was issued Monday, June 30, charging Jones with unlawful use of a weapon. His arraignment is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 11.
