Robert Emil Vonkaenel, 615 Virginia St., Louisiana, Mo., (born 1971) was sentenced to 15 years with the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge David Hamilton Ash in Pike County Circuit Court at Bowling Green on Feb. 1.
Vonkaenel pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and two counts of stealing. Other charges were dropped.
The defendant admitted breaking into the deputy’s Louisiana home on Dec. 21, 2011, and taking a uniform, badge, handcuffs, a baton, a Taser and a gun.
Authorities recovered most of the items, but said some were burned in a wood stove or thrown into the Mississippi River.
The defendant lived near the deputy. He is eligible for up to two years in a state prison treatment program. At that time, a judge will decide if he should serve the rest of his sentence.
