The fourth-grade classes from area schools got a sneak peek at the Lincoln County Old Thrashers before it was opened to the public on Sept. 18. The students were treated to informative demonstrations from various agencies and people from the county that own steam engines.
Students, who will study Missouri history over the course of the year, witnessed the thrashing of wheat and sawing of logs done by old time steam engines. They then rode on the famous steam-controlled merry-go-round that makes its home on the grounds.
Also on hand were personnel from AirEvac Helicopter services. Students were able to tour the aircraft and ask questions about the transportation of patients in need of medical services. Missouri Conservation Agent Kevin Eulinger talked about snakes that live in east-central Missouri. His presentation was highlighted with live visual aids of snakes. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department drug dogs were also on hand for a demonstration of their abilities. Schools attending from the area were from Elsberry, Silex, Troy, Millwood and a group of home-schooled children.
