Church soup supper to honor Capt. Smith

Visiting out of town military people in town for the renaming of the Monroe City Airport after their fallen comrade, Capt. Ben Smith, are invited to enjoy a free meal during the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church’s annual Fall Soup Supper and Auction. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 4.
Various soups, sandwiches, pies and drinks will be served for the meal. Baked items, frozen blackberries, wood, needlework items, garden produce, potted plants, and an assortment of other things will be included in the auction. Everyone is invited to join Mount Vernon UMC to honor the military families visiting the community. Mount Vernon is located northeast of Monroe City and southwest of Palmyra on Marion County Road 240, which runs between Missouri Routes Z and U.
