Monroe City school board approves purchase of air conditioners

Monroe City, MO —

Monroe City students and staff should be cooler when the school year begins. During its June meeting the Monroe City R-1 Board of Education approved the purchase of 12 new air conditioning units.
The bid for $19,000 from Major Appliance Service Headquarters in Bowling Green was accepted. A total of 17 air conditioning units will be installed.
The total bids approved were for $24,000.
In other business:
• Approval was given the seeking of bids for the vo-ag building addition.
• A resolution was approved authorizing and directing the issuance and delivery of $1.2 million in general obligation bonds, series 2008 (Missouri Direct Deposit Program).
• Approval was given the Federal Grants Application program for the 2008-09 school year.
• The Pre-School, Elementary Student/Parent and High School Student handbooks for the next school year were approved.
• The district’s Elementary Crisis Response Plan was approved.
• A contract for Speech Therapy Services from Hannibal Regional Hospital for the upcoming school year was approved. 
• In personnel matters: Kathryn Pederson was hired as a secondary communications arts teacher; the resignation of Jan Gottman as an eighth grade teacher was accepted.
• The next board meeting was scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, July 14.
